pic o' the day

Ah yes, The Baroness. I always envisioned her as an eternally young Pat Savage going form one identity to another. In any case she was the type of character that I think Pat Savage would have become given time: savvy, an accomplished martial artist, pshysically fit, and a formidable opponent.

This cover was I assume from the British edition. The stories had a rather liberal dose of gratuitous sex (which I would consider not typical for Pat) but that was the style in those days. The revealing decollatage is totally in character.

The series author, Lyle Kenyon Engel, wrote many of the "men's adventure series" in the 1970s and 1980s. I always thought that this and "John Eagle: The Expediter" were his best.

Art, I recalled your thoughts on The Baroness and Pat Savage from way back, and actually hoped today's pic o' the day would prompt a comment from you.

I linked The Baroness into the Wold Newton Universe with a minor reference in my tale "The Shades of Pemberley." And perhaps you'll find Patricia Wildman a sort-of blend between Pat Savage and The Baroness. ;-)

I remember reading one of the Baroness novels when I was a teenager. Interesting stuff. I guess if your name is "Art" the Baroness sort of gravitates to you.

Win, your comment makes me want to read the Evil in Pemerley House even more.
