Philip José Farmer

February 25th:

Philip José Farmer passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning.

He will be missed greatly by his wife Bette, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and countless fans around the world.

January 26, 1918 - February 25, 2009. R.I.P.

I am not pulled together well enough to say anything else right now, except...

We love you Phil.

I know exactly how you feel, Win. A lot of people I look up to have died in the past year, but Phil's passing has hit me hardest of all. Truly an inspiration to me, you, and hundreds of others. His legacy lives on, and it's a profound shame he won't see the publication of the novels you and Chris Carey are completing. I intend to light a memorial candle for one of my true heroes tonight.

I don't know what to say right now, except that there is no way I'd be the writer I am now if not for Philip Jose Farmer. I wish I could have met him.

Rest easy, sir.

Sean, thank you very much for this.

Martin, you captured it exactly.

Lots of tears right now.

Mr. Farmer was a true inspiration to those of us who relish the concept that various works of fiction are all connected. And his Riverworld series is probably the most imaginative series I've ever read in SF.

My condolences to his family, as well as to you, Win, for losing such a wonderful mentor. I know it must be gratifying to know you had the chance to work with him.....

I wonder at what point along the River he's materialized... and with whom?

Rest in peace, sir.

I wish I could properly express the loss I'm feeling at PJF's passing. He gave me a greater world through his imagination and I only wish I could have given something back.

Thank you Phil. We'll keep your torch lit.

I’m so sad.

He was my Ideal of SF writer. The writer I wanted to be when I finally grow up.

This is a sad night. I feel as I have lost a long time friend.
