This arrived today....

Limited edition hardcover with dust jacket by Douglas Klauba. Beautiful! Extra story by Max McCoy and a few other bonus materials.

And the first time I've been featured in a hardcover. :-)

I got mine today too!

Thanks Bish! :-)

Matthew: woo hoo!

It really is a nicely done book, very professional.

I received mine, too.

It's very cool, but I am a bit bewildered by the lack of title or credits on the actual spine of the book, under the dust jacket.

Or do I have a mutant copy?

No, you do not have a mutant copy. :-)

Well, that's good to know. I think.

I suspect that you find those photos of Steve Holland, posing as The Avenger for cover artist Peter Caras, to be pure magic as I do!

Of the several I've participated in so far, I think this is my favorite Moonstone anthology. I have a genuine sentimental attachment to Richard Henry Benson.

I shudder to think of making through high school without him.

The Holland photos are definitely a bonus!

When the trade with the Caras cover came in, my comic shop manager/friend asked if I had posed for the cover. He was serious!

He definitely meant the face, not the bod. ;-)

I had a similar experience with a comic shop owner, asking me if I'd posed for ReelArts' SPIDER statue!

I don't get it.

An absolutely stunning book and something I am very proud to have been a part of. Easily my favorite Moonstone anthology and like Martin it would have been tough making it through my adolescent years without Mr. Benson. I was, however, a bit surprised at some of the comments in the Caras interview. I am a big fan of both cover artists.

I admire both Peter Caras and the late George Gross, as AVENGER cover artists, too.

Although I can understand Caras's criticism to a degree, the fact of the matter is--as any AVENGER fan knows--that Benson wasn't 6'3" (instead, an average 5'8"), and in the later pulps his hair grew dark again.

Gross was actually following the depiction of the character from the actual series, plus he was an authentic cover artist from the old pulp days, himself.

In fact, the three AVENGER covers that are most iconic to me include: JUSTICE, INC., RIVER OF ICE, and THE FLAME BREATHERS, two of which are painted by Gross.

By the way, Win and Howard, what do you think of Doug's cover on the hardback??

Oh, and...before I forget again...

Congratulations, Howard! Must be a great feeling having your name on the front cover of a real AVENGER book!

Martin, I absolutely love Doug's cover--it's great to see Benson's teammates get their due. :-)

I like it fine myself, although I was hoping for a fully-painted cover.

I picked it up and read several of the stories.

I was not aware there were 2 cover artists for the Avenger. I know of George Gross, but did not know Peter Caras did the first and 1 or 2 others.

Personally, I did not think the new Caras cover lived up to his original ones. To me, his original cover had as much impact as Bama's Doc covers. Gross did a great job (along with covers for The Spider and Operator #5).
