It took me years to track down this book (in the olden days). For a long time I had to be content with reading NERO WOLFE OF WEST 35TH STREET because that's all my library had. Both excellent books.
That's funny, I also had the NERO WOLFE bio (the 1982 Penguin reprint) for a long while before I finally found a copy -- also pre-internet bookstore hunting -- of the HOLMES bio. :-)
You guys are making me feel old! I found this easily enough on the shelves when I first got into Sherlockiana. So that's going back to 1976, '77, or so. (I'd check the book itself to be sure, but to make room in Toobworld Central, it's been crated up with many of my other Holmes studies and pastiches.)
