Bzzzzzzz......

I'm privileged to be one of several contributing to the bible for Moonstone's new series of Green Hornet prose anthologies.

I love the '60s TV series (and the earlier radio and serial incarnations, of course), and have the many comics (the '60s Gold Keys and the '80s-'90s revival; only a few of the Golden Age comics, alas--too pricey), Big Little Books, the '60s tie-in books The Infernal Light and The Case of the Disappearing Doctor, etc.

I'm very, very excited about this. :-)

After the NOW series firmly established the multi-generational aspect to the character, I'd love to see Generation 4 debut in the new stories. It's about time for that next generation, isn't it?
I hope the new stuff keeps the TV Hornet in the '60s, with the NOW Hornet in the '80s.

Congrats:) I'd hoped to write for this one but didn't make the cut.

Ray, from what I've been told by Moonstone, the NOW comics stories are not in the mix here at all. They won't be part of this new Green Hornet continuity.

This new series of books will feature the Green Hornet from the 1960s TV show, somewhat re-imagined for 21st century readers, and will focus on serious adult crime stories.

Exactly how much "re-imagining" is done depends on whether or not I'll be contributing to the series. I'm waiting to see the bible before agreeing to commit, but Joe Gentile assures me that this will be the "real" Green Hornet and Kato.

I trust Joe like my own brother...but it's the licensors that are troubling me.

Without spilling too much, it is my hope that despite the "re-imagining" phrase floating out there, the stories of the '60s Green Hornet still take place in their appropriate time-frame, and will be true to the Hornet and Kato. There won't be any reference to the multi-generational aspect from the NOW series. But that doesn't necessarily mean that there will be an active effort to contradict it, either. Make sense?

And now, I think I'll shut up, since I'm only a contributor to the bible and certainly am not the one making final calls on this stuff. :-) And I really don't want to get into spoiler territory. :-)

Win,

I certainly meant no offense at all toward you nor the other writers constructing this new GH bible. If I came across that way, I sincerely apologize.

It's just that I've experienced plenty of awful ordeals with licensors who never quite seem to understand their own properties. Joe and I wrestled with THE SPIDER licensor over things that you would find hard to believe (such as making the character nonlethal and "family-friendly"), so I've learned to duck my head and flinch regarding matters like these.

I trust all of you guys to treat the Green Hornet with respect...but the suits that own the character could be a whole other monster.

I love the Hornet.

Best of luck to all of you.

Martin, no worries at all, you're a pal and I understood. I'm not offended at all. Hope it works out as we all want, and that perhaps you'll join in if you're comfortable. :-)

Win,Does this mean that you'll be contributing to the books or are you just a fact-checker?
I'm crossing my fingers that we get to read more of your excellent stories.

James B., after a very crappy two weeks, esp. several rough days at the day job, you just made my day. Thank you. :-)

Yes, I am slated to contribute at least a story (and hopefully stories if the books go to multiple volumes as planned). Of course, Moonstone and the license owner will have to approve my proposal, and then the final story, but yeah, that's the plan.

Thanks again. :-)
