A New Year

2015 was a slow year for me from a writing productivity perspective. The move to a new city, getting our new house in order, and starting a new job have all led to a major disruption in my output.

Too, when I did find a spot of free time, it was consumed by necessary editing and publishing tasks to which I had already been obligated.

I had hoped to see a few more pieces out in 2015, but despite meeting submission deadlines, they weren't published as planned. Hopefully they are well on their way for 2016.

Thus, I only have one publication in 2015, a short story in the benefit anthology Legends of New Pulp Fiction. I was very pleased and honored to be included in this, and hopefully readers will enjoy my Green Ghost story, "Chance of a Ghost." Even more importantly, I hope the book helps fellow publisher Tommy Hancock and his family in this time of need. (And check out that awesome cover by the talented Doug Klauba!)

I was also glad to see a few prior works out in ebook, new editions, or in new collections.
  • The connected tales "Nadine's Invitation," "Marguerite's Tears," and "Violet's Lament" were republished in The Vampire Almanac, Volume 2 by Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier (eds.) (Black Coat Press, May 2015) | Amazon
  • "Les Levres Rouges" was republished in The Vampire Almanac, Volume 1 by Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier (eds.) (Black Coat Press, February 2015) | Amazon

Significantly, December 13, 2015 saw the launch of Wold Newton Family.com, with much appreciated help from fellow Wold Newton fans and experts Christopher Paul Carey and Jason Aiken. The site is dedicated to providing "accurate and factual information on the canonical Wold Newton Family as created and envisioned by Philip José Farmer, and on deuterocanonical works authorized by Mr. Farmer or his estate."

There is a new article posted there today, Philip José Farmer's "The Arms of Tarzan."

2016 should see the publication of one already-written non-fiction pop culture piece and two already-written short stories—one of which has been waiting in the wings for six long years. The latter is either coming out this year or it will have to move along to a new home.

I'm hunkering down to whip out an Avenger novel, after which comes intensive research, rereading, worldbuilding, outlining, and finishing the Doc Caliban novel The Monster on Hold (begun by Philip José Farmer in the late 1970s and early 1980s). Monster is slated for a summer 2017 release.

Onward!

The Scarlet Jaguar – Now in Hardcover!

Posted via Meteor House:
"Back in June we announced that Exiles of Kho by Christopher Paul CareyMeteor House’s first Signed Limited Edition novella, published as a trade paperback and out of print for two years—was going to be reprinted as a Signed Limited Edition hardcover. 100 copies were printed in August and less than ten are left for sale today!

We bring that to your attention because today we are announcing that The Scarlet Jaguar by Win Scott Eckert—our second Signed Limited Edition novella, also printed in trade paperback, and also out of print for over a year—is going to be reprinted in hardcover!

In case you missed the paperback edition, The Scarlet Jaguar, the second book in the Pat Wildman series, was the 2014 PulpArk New Pulp Award Winner for Best Novella. The first Pat Wildman novel, of course, is The Evil in Pemberley House, which is available in trade paperback and a forthcoming ebook. (Please also check out Win Scott Eckert’s Pat Wildman website.)

All copies of the new hardcover edition will be signed by Win Scott Eckert. The print-run will be determined by the number of preorders, and the deadline to preorder is November 1st. Books will be shipped in late November, so reserve your copy of the Signed Limited Edition Hardcover of The Scarlet Jaguar today!"

I'm quite pleased to see this coming novella back in print, in a handsome hardcover edition, and of course graced by Mark Sparacio's wonderful cover painting of Pat Wildman. My thanks to the team at Meteor House, who are standing by to take your preorder (and to immediately fill any orders for Pat Wildman #1, The Evil in Pemberley House, if you're so inclined..)!

The Evil in Pemberley House--back on sale!!

After the summer 2014 publication of the Meteor House edition of The Evil in Pemberley House, the Duchess of Greystoke—Pat Wildman herself!—wrote to me pointing out three minor errors, text which was missing from the original hardcover edition. This was mortifying, to say the least.

Due to major life events occurring at the same time--a relocation to another state for a new job--I was unable to give this situation the attention it deserved until recently. Consequently, I and Meteor House decided to stop selling the edition until we had a solid plan for correcting the errors.

I'm pleased to say that the book is now back on sale!

Meteor House will include an errata sheet, signed by me, with every new order of this first printing. For customers who already bought the book, Meteor House will include the errata sheet in the shipment of any of their latest books. For anyone not covered by this plan, Meteor House will make separate arrangements to send the signed errata sheet. Contact information for Meteor House is on their site: http://meteorhousepress.com/

I and Meteor House regret the error. The corrections will be incorporated into the book’s second printing and the ebook. And yes, we are actively planning to release the ebook soon (for both Kindle and Nook)!

Again, we apologize for the error and appreciate your loyal readership.

Viva Pat Wildman!

The Scarlet Jaguar ebook is now on Nook!

Newsflash! Meteor House has released The Scarlet Jaguar (second in the Pat Wildman series, and winner of the 2014 New Pulp Award Winner for Best Novella) on Nook.

I know that it's a bit strange that Pat Wildman #2 is out in ebook before the first volume, The Evil in Pemberley House. This happened because Meteor House secured the rights to reissue Pemberley House after they released The Scarlet Jaguar. The print edition of Pemberley House is currently out of stock, but Meteor House tells me more copies will be available soon, after which an ebook edition will also come out (on both Kindle and Nook).

After that...rest assured, more Pat Wildman adventures are on their way!

In the meantime, head on over to the Meteor House ebooks page, or follow these direct links to The Scarlet Jaguar ebook:

The Evil in Pemberley House - new trade paperback edition

Hot on the the heels of yesterday's news that the second Pat Wildman adventure, The Scarlet Jaguar, has just been released in ebook (Kindle - Nook coming soon), comes today's post from Meteor House announcing that the first Pat Wildman book, The Evil in Pemberley House, will be released in an affordable trade paperback edition in August!

The Evil in Pemberley House, the novel on which I was fortunate enough to collaborate directly with SF Grand Master Philip José Farmer, was published in 2009, just a few short months after his too-soon passing. The trade hardcover retailed for $40, while a numbered hardcover plus chapbook listed for $60. Both editions sold out in 2010.

Now, Meteor House is bringing out a trade paperback at the more accessible price point of $20, sporting the same wonderful cover painting by the inimitable Glen Orbik that graced the prior edition. Even more exiting, the Meteor House edition will include many bonus pieces, including:
  • New Foreword to the 2014 Edition
  • A Pemberley House/Wold Newton Family graphic tree
  • An Expanded Pemberley House/Wold Newton Family graphic tree, including SPOILERS from the novel
  • Outline for the novel by Philip José Farmer
  • A timeline of key events in the novel by Win Scott Eckert
  • A “Creative Mythography” essay by Win Scott Eckert, about the research and writing of the novel and ensuring it remained in continuity with Farmer’s other Wold Newtonian works, such as Tarzan Alive, Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, and The Adventure of the Peerless Peer
The Evil in Pemberley House is immediately available for preorder direct from Meteor House. Order before June 30th and I will sign your copy when I am at FarmerCon IX/PulpFest 2014 in early August (all books will be shipped after FarmerCon, unless of course you come to FarmerCon, in which case you get your copy in person and Meteor House refund the shipping charge).

The Scarlet Jaguar - Kindle ebook now available

Doing a bit of a happy dance at Meteor House's announcement of the release of the Kindle ebook edition of the Pat Wildman adventure The Scarlet Jaguar.

Please check it out and then head on over to Amazon and get your copy.

(And while you're at it, why not also grab the ebook edition of Christopher Paul Carey's Exiles of Kho? It's a prelude to Philip José Farmer's Opar novels Hadon of Ancient Opar, Flight to Opar, and The Song of Kwasin, and it's a great read!)

Nook diehards, worry not. I have it on good authority that Meteor House definitely plans to do Nook ebook editions for the Barnes & Noble store. Stay tuned, coming soon.

In the meantime, please do check out Pat Wildman's second adventure, The Scarlet Jaguar, and if you already read the out-of-print limited edition trade paperback, consider leaving a review on Amazon.

And stay tuned for an announcement regarding Pat Wildman's first adventure, The Evil in Pemberley House, coming tomorrow!

THE SCARLET JAGUAR - three new reviews

I haven't been paying quite enough attention to self-marketing activities of late, so here's a smallish attempt at remedying that, links to three reviews of my recently-released novella The Scarlet Jaguar.

Many thanks to Ron Fortier at Pulp Fiction Reviews, Dave Brzeski at the British Fantasy Society, and Brad Mengel at the Serial Vigilante Blog for taking the time.

I'm reliably informed by my publisher Meteor House that there are a very few copies remaining of this limited edition novella, which can be ordered here.

Pat Wildman - The Scarlet Jaguar final cover sketch

A few days ago I announced my new novella, a Pat Wildman adventure which is a sequel to The Evil in Pemberley House (by Philip Jose Farmer and me).

The Scarlet Jaguar will be out in July 2013 and is available for preorder now, direct from Meteor House.

Fully authorized by Farmer's estate, the book will feature a fully painted cover by  Mark Sparacio.

A few days ago Mark and I conferred and we signed off on this cover sketch on which the painting will be based. I'm quite pleased and can't wait to see the final product!

Casting Call 2: The Evil in Pemberley House

Following up on Brad Mengel's original post, and my brief reply, on dream casting The Evil in Pemberley House:

Patricia Wildman: still down with Christina Hendricks.

Dr. James Clarke "Doc" Wildman (Patricia's father): Chris Hemsworth (minus the long hair & beard).

Adelaide Lupin (Patricia's mother): Eva Green.

The Dowager Duchess of Greystoke: I'm fine with Brad's suggestion of Dame Maggie Smith.

Richard Deguy: Richard Greene (since Phil Farmer said Deguy looked like Greene).

Carla Deguy/Ghost of Bess of Pemberley: Olivia Wilde.

Helen Benson (daughter of Mr. Benson and Ellen Patrick): Beau Garrett.

Dr. Augustus Moran: Michael Caine.

Casting Call : The Evil in Pemberley House

Brad Mengel is starting a neat little series of blog posts imagining the movie casts of his favorite books, and I'm honored he's started with The Evil in Pemberley House.

I am definitely down with his suggestions for Christina Hendricks as Patricia Wildman...

...and Monica Belluci as Patricia's mother, Adelaide Lupin...

... although I had originally envisioned Angelina Jolie for the role...

I'll put together my own cast suggestions soon. Thanks Brad!

Warehouse find! Rare Pemberley House chapbook!

Due to a warehouse find at Subterranean Press, I'm pleased to make available several copies of the ultra-rare, out of print chapbook which accompanied the Limited Edition of the novel The Evil in Pemberley House.

The cover by Killer Keith Howell features the Doc Savage Coat of Arms, based on Philip José Farmer's written description in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, and supplemented with information from Farmer's private notes.

Chapbook contents:

  • An Expanded Pemberley House/Wold Newton Family graphic tree, which including SPOILERS from the novel
  • Notes on the Wildman [Savage] Coat of Arms by Philip José Farmer
  • Outline for the novel by Philip José Farmer
  • A timeline of key events in the novel by Win Scott Eckert
  • A "Creative Mythography" essay by Win Scott Eckert, about the research and writing of the novel and ensuring it remained in continuity with Farmer's other Wold Newtonian works, such as Tarzan Alive, the aforementioned Doc Savage, and The Adventure of the Peerless Peer

  • Info on how to order is on my Signed Books page (along with many other goodies). If you missed the chapbook the first time around, you probably want to act now, 'cause once they're gone, they're gone.

pic o' the day - Crossovers extra

Shamelessly promoting the fact that Crossovers 2: A Secret Chronology of the World is NOW AVAILABLE for order, I'm posting several weeks worth of crossover image goodness. Enjoy!

THE EVIL IN PEMBERLEY HOUSE Limited Edition

I while back I noted that the limited edition of The Evil in Pemberley House had sold out. This is true, insofar as ordering direct from Subterranean Press is concerned.

However, I became aware today that
Camelot Books appears to have some limited editions left in stock.

    The limited edition features:
    • chapbook cover art of the Doc Wildman [Doc Savage] Coat of Arms by Keith Howell
    • novel endsheets feature a Pemberley House/Wold Newton Family tree
    • chapbook features an expanded Pemberley House/Wold Newton Family tree, which including SPOILERS from the novel
    • notes on the Wildman [Savage] Coat of Arms by Philip José Farmer
    • outline for the novel by Philip José Farmer
    • timeline of key events in the novel by Win Scott Eckert
    • Wold Newtonian essay by Win Scott Eckert
If you're a reader of my Crossovers books (thank you!) and you haven't picked up Pemberley House, you're at least aware by now of the multitude of crossovers and references featured in the novel; so if crossovers are your thing, you're covered. ;-)

If adventure with a bit of sex tossed in are your thing... well, Phil Farmer and I have got you covered there as well (don't let Glen Orbik's gorgeous "girl running away from house" cover fool you on that count; Patricia Wildman, the daughter of a well-known bronze-hued pulp hero, undergoes more than her share of Gothic travails, but she also knows how to kick ass, and she does).

If I haven't convinced you yet, check out the reviews, and give the book a shot, if you haven't already done so.
