Subterranean Press acquires a new Wold Newton novel
Subterranean Press announced today that they have acquired a new novel that is part of Philip José Farmer's Wold Newton mythos:
In addition, we’ve just bought a few other new titles:
– The Evil in Pemberley House (Philip José Farmer and Win Scott Eckert) — a darkly erotic novel that is part of Farmer’s Wold Newton canon. The limited edition will include a chapbook with a whole host of unpublished background material.

I am still not processing this... my first novel, written with Phil Farmer. I have so many people to thank for helping me reach this point... I'd better get it right for the book's acknowledgments... :-)

Amazon strikes again
One good feature Amazon has had is the ability for users, writers, etc., to update product info. This is particularly useful in the case of anthologies, where not all the contributors are listed initially, just the editor. Submit the contributors' names with Amazon's "update product info" form, and, presto, users can now get search results on all the anthologies featuring their favorite writers.
Now, as if I already didn't have reason enough to stop linking to Amazon, they turn around and (1) unilaterally, (2) without notice, and (3) selectively are refusing to implement their own "update product info" feature.
Their new reason? "Contributor list for anthologies should only include the editor(s)."
Oh, okay, sorry. I didn't realize that only editors contributed to anthologies. The people who actually wrote the stories... didn't contribute.
This means that anyone interested in searching on my name to discover what anthologies I've contributed stories to (there might actually be one or two readers out there interested in doing this, by gosh) will get zero results. This despite my contributions to Tales of the Shadowmen vols. 1-5, The Avenger Chronicles, and Lance Star--Sky Ranger, not to mention a few forthcoming books which, well, I can't mention yet.
In fact, Amazon, after accepting the product updated I submitted, for all of a week, you have now reverted the listing for The Avenger Chronicles back to showing writers who never made it into the book.
And yet, "Data accuracy is highly important."
WTF.
So **** ***, Amazon, you have removed the last possible reason I might have had for linking to my books listed on your site. From this point forward it'll be B&N.com and Borders.com. And I know there are problems with those corporate conglomerates, too.

This fifth anthology of pastiches features some of the most amazing encounters between the legendary heroes and villains of popular literature: Count Dracula and Joséphine Balsamo, Lord Ruthven and the Count of Monte Cristo, the Nyctalope and Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Arsène Lupin and Hanoi Shan, Irma Vep and Fascinax, Monsieur Lecoq and Dr. Loveless... and even Sherlock Holmes and Tevye the Milkman!
I was fortunate enough to convince my good friend (and very talented writer!) Christopher Paul Carey to collaborate on a tale, and our editor and publisher, Jean-Marc Lofficier, was very pleased with the result. Our story, "Iron and Bronze," combines elements drawn from Pierre Benoit's L'Atlantide, Jules Verne's duology The Barsac Mission, J. H. Rosny and Philip José Farmer's Ironcastle, and Guy d'Armen's Doc Ardan, against the backdrop of H. Rider Haggard's Africa.

Vegas pics
For the better half's birthday, we spent four days in Vegas last week, played some slots (and came home even), had some spectacular meals, and saw a few shows (Cirque "O" (Wednesday), the kitchy & racy Folies Bergere (Thursday), and Blue Man Group (Friday). Also engaged in a little retail therapy, particularly at the Bettie Page store (!!), where I got a nifty retro Bettie Page clock and a Bettie Page tie, for swingin' jazz and rockabilly evenings out sipping martinis.
On Thursday we had spa treatments together, after which Lisa went off for more girlie spa goodness while I lounged the manly section of the spa and let the hot jet tubs blast my back muscles into jelly, and then received an amazingly good bit of news emailed to my new crackberry phone. No more on that now, until it's official.
Here are some pics of the Bellagio fountains taken from our hotel room, and the fake Eiffel Tower across the street. From the pics, you'd think we went to Europe or something. :-)
