PulpFest 2019...and me!

I'm pleased to announce that after much back and forth, I will be attending PulpFest 2019 in August, and will have copies of Hunt the Avenger (published by Moonstone Books) on hand!

On Saturday, August 17, from 1:30 – 2:30 PM, I'll be signing Hunt the Avenger. If you've already preordered a copy, please bring it with you and I'll be happy to personally inscribe it (even if you already bought one of the signed limited edition hardcovers). Of course, if you want to pick up a copy from me there, that's fine as well. I will have softcovers and hardcovers–probably more softcovers.

Immediately thereafter, 3:15 – 4:30 PM, I'll be joining top notch writers (featuring John Bruening, Christopher Paul Carey, Craig McDonald, and William Patrick Murray) on a panel on Contemporary Pulp: Writing Genre Fiction moderated by authorized Fu Manchu continuation author William Patrick Maynard.

That evening, 7:45 – 8:25 PM, I'll be on the FarmerCon XIV panel: Farmer of the Pulps: A Harvest of Influences (featuring Jason Aiken, Christopher Paul Carey, and Garyn G. Roberts Ph. D., with Paul Spiteri moderating).

I hope to see you there!

Tarzan and the Dark Heart of Time – Now in Hardcover!

Tarzan and the Dark Heart of Time
by Philip José Farmer

Meteor House, as a part of the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Philip José Farmer, is thrilled to announce the first hardcover publication of his authorized Tarzan novel, Tarzan and the Dark Heart of Time—a book that takes place in 1918, the year of Farmer’s birth!

One of the most famous heroes in literature is back! Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, returns with a vengeance in this action-packed adventure by Philip José Farmer, Hugo Award winner, Nebula Grand Master, and author of the incredible Riverworld saga.

Tarzan’s beloved mate, Jane, has been kidnapped, and the furious ape-man will let nothing stand in the way of rescuing her—not even a sinister safari whose target is Tarzan himself. With fierce Masai trackers leading the chase, a trio of white hunters are hellbent on capturing the Jungle Lord. But as the pursuers, and their uncanny half-human tracker, close in from behind, Tarzan races toward even greater danger ahead.

For the trail leads to a bizarre, long-forgotten land boasting a multitude of strange and terrifying mysteries: the City Built by God, the Hideous Hunter, the One to Avoid, and most shocking of all, the Crystal Tree of Time—whose seductive powers could ultimately spell Tarzan’s doom . . .

Philip José Farmer, a descendant of the actual Greystoke family, and a recipient of the prestigious Golden Lion Award, bestowed by the Burroughs Bibliophiles at the 1970 Dum-Dum, is famous for his adventure novels starring Tarzanic characters. Now, in Tarzan and the Dark Heart of Time, authorized by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., Farmer lends his vast imagination to the legend of the Lord of the Apes himself!

In addition, this handsome new edition, which sports a gorgeous painted cover by well known Burroughs artist Mark Wheatley, a new Foreword by longtime Burroughs scholar Robert R. Barrett, and a new Introduction by Farmer expert Win Scott Eckert, will also be released in a trade paperback edition.

Now accepting preorders, the book will be released at FarmerCon 100, held in conjunction with PulpFest 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA, July 26-29, 2018. As always, readers who preorder and attend FarmerCon/PulpFest can pick up their copies there—and as an added bonus, get them signed by Wheatley and Eckert! All other copies will ship immediately after FarmerCon 100.

I will also have copies available at my table at the Edgar Rice Burroughs Dum Dum 2018 & Tarzan Celebration, in Morgan City, LA, August 2-5, 2018. The event, celebrating 100 years since the release of the first Tarzan movie, which was filmed in Morgan City, is cosponsored by the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Burroughs Bibliophiles.

Headed to PulpFest 2016 / FarmerCon XI

I'm excited to see all my pulp collecting pals and fellow Philip José Farmer fans starting tomorrow at PulpFest 2016 / FarmerCon XI (July 21 - 24, 2016).

I am officially on vacation starting today, wrapping up several things around the house in preparation for an O-Dark-Hundred flight to Columbus, Ohio tomorrow morning.

In addition to helping man the Meteor House table, chatting with customers, as well as fellow readers and fans, and scouring the dealers' room for additions to my own collection, I have a reading scheduled and will appear on two panels.

Friday, July 22

7 - 7:40 pm: FarmerCon XI. Christopher Paul Carey, Paul Spiteri, Danny Adams and I (all of whom have cowritten books or stories with Philip José Farmer) discuss "Collaborating with a Grand Master."

Saturday, July, 23
2 - 2:50 pm: I join moderator Ron Fortier and fellow panelists Barbara Doran, Andy Fix, and Jeff Venture to discuss writing hero pulp in "The AMAZING World of New Pulp."

I hope to see you in Columbus!

At the risk of overwhelming Meteor House with even more books to ship after this year's FarmerCon X / PulpFest 2015, I'd like to note that it's been almost two years since I had the privilege of editing the deluxe hardcover edition of Philip José Farmer's masterful Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life--one of the true highlights of my editing career.

“Written with wit and charm, sprinkled with allusions, this is a book to delight both science fiction and mystery fans” (Library Journal).

The deluxe hardcover and the trade paperback edition both feature a brand new foreword by me, updates to the “List of Doc Savage Stories” including the latest novels, and rare material culled from Mr. Farmer’s notes, restored to the book exclusively in these editions.

The deluxe hardcover edition also features the following bonus material:

• Tributes by other Farmer and Doc experts, including John Allen Small, Keith Howell, Rick Lai, Art Sippo, Christopher Paul Carey, and current Doc Savage writer Will Murray
• Doc’s Coat of Arms, reconstructed by me and illustrated by Keith Howell, from notes by Philip José Farmer
• A List of Doc Savage Comics by me and John Allen Small, a rundown of authorized Doc Savage comics which supplements Mr. Farmer’s List of Doc Savage Stories
• Writing Doc’s Biography by Philip José Farmer
• Afterword to Doc Savage Omnibus #13 by Philip José Farmer

There are also trade paperback and ebook editions (without the bonus material) published by our friends at Altus Press.

Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the beautiful cover art by current Doc Savage artist Joe DeVito!

The hardcover sold like hotcakes at FarmerCon VIII / PulpFest 2013, and Meteor House still has copies available.

Check it out!
